The Most Popular Tourist Attractions In London

The city of London is home to some of the world’s biggest tourist attractions and once you’re there, it’s hard to know where to begin because there’re so many things to see and do. To make sure that you leave London having done and seen everything the city has to offer, there are plenty of sites that you must see.

Probably the one that first springs to mind is of course, The London Eye, also called the Millennium Wheel. It opened for business in 1999 and looks like an over-sized ferris wheel. It is now one of the worlds biggest tourist attractions, despite facing scepticism when it opened.

Re-designed and re-built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1668, St. Paul’s Cathedral is another of London’s must see attractions. It is a breathtakingly beautiful building which is recognised today as one of Britain’s most iconic buildings.

Arguably the attraction with the most gruesome history, the Tower of London has been a prison and place of execution for London’s people in the past. It was built by William the Conqueror originally, to try and keep London’s rowdy rabble under wraps.

For the artistic types, there is of course, the Tate Modern. The modern art capital of the country and home to works from such esteemed modernists as Picasso, Matisse, Dali and perhaps most notably of all, Andy Warhol.

Arguable one of the most famous London attractions is Buckingham Palace. It is one of the most instantly recognisable buildings in the world, and is the official residence of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. An architectural and visual delight that is full of stunning works of art, although not a museum or art gallery it is open to the public for guided tours.

The Natural History Museum is the last sight that I will list here, but it is by no means the last to be seen. It was as somewhere to put all natural history items that the British Museum had (it was nearly over-flowing with them) and over time became the great museum we know it as today. It is a wonderfully spectacular building designed by Alfred Waterhouse in 1880-1881.

I couldn’t possibly describe all of London’s attractions here, but to take in London in it’s entirety, it will definately take more than one day. Therefore, to complete your trip to London, the perfect hotel is the icing on the cake.
