Women’s Travel Tours: Who Goes On These?

In recent years, the women’s travel niche has become an increasingly popular segment of the travel industry as droves of women flock to tours designed specifically for the ladies. But what kind of person does this, and why is it appealing?

For many singles, traveling in groups is easier, safer, and more enjoyable than traveling completely unaccompanied. It’s no wonder, when you consider that there are now more single than married women for the first time in US history. Many of these women want to travel, and they choose not to let the lack of a partner stop them. Of course, they could simply travel alone. But, many people just aren’t comfortable or don’t have fun traveling solo. Besides, if you break out laughing all alone at a table for one, people might think you’re rather strange!

Single women. If you’ve ever been a single woman at an event with mostly couples, then you know how alienating in can feel to be the odd woman out. On the other hand, perhaps you don’t want to meet Larry from Sheboygan on a singles cruise either. You’re not looking for your soul mate; you just want to enjoy a fun vacation!

Married women. It’s not uncommon for married couples to have wildly different ideas about what makes an enjoyable vacation. For example, you might be daydreaming about seeing Michelangelo’s David in Italy, while he’s daydreaming about taking his fishing rod on a date with…a halibut.

Divorced women. Even though you may not have a husband to travel with you, this is no reason not to travel! Actually, many women find that divorce is a prime reason to do all of the things they’ve dreamed of doing while they were married, but that they suppressed in deference to their husband’s needs or the responsibilities of daily life. Now newly single, these women are free to take the trips they’ve always wanted to. Now, off to Greece!

Widows. No matter how happy or sad your marriage may have been, you need to move on and make a life of your own. Getting out into the world and enjoying the sights with a group of women is a wonderful way to accomplish this. Sure, you could travel with your niece, but isn’t it strange how relatives often want you to pay for their trip too?

Girlfriend getaways. Get together with a group of your female friends and take a ladies-only trip where you can all relax and enjoy one another’s company. This is a great way to be able to let your hair down and enjoy some female bonding time. You can have some great heart to heart girlfriend talks, or just laugh and have fun!

Old friends. Do you meet up every summer with your college roommates? Do your sisters live far away, but every once and a while you enjoy some time together? These types of getaways are a great way to spend time with your friends who don’t live close to you.

Moms and daughters. If you want to understand your mom in a whole new way, try going on a vacation together. You might find it’s quite different than a family vacation where she’s catering to everyone else’s needs. My mom went with me to Costa Rica, and I had a ton of fun seeing her adventurous side shine through.

The girls. So what if you live in the same town? There’s no reason you can’t get away for a while. Leave the kids home for a few days while you take a spa weekend with the girls! It’s a great way to feel renewed, and not only because of the relaxing massage!

The truth is that the ambiance of a women’s trip is entirely different. You can talk freely; the mood is one of camaraderie without the competition.

Our astute kayaking guide told us that he never has any issues with women’s groups, but couples are a different story. A lot of times they’re arguing the whole time, when they’re supposed to be enjoying the kayaking. What a waste! Maybe you should think about a women’s tour instead!
