The Untied States western coastal region is really exploding when it comes to making world class wines. Seattle and greater Washington are included in the movement. There are an ever increasing number of wineries starting up to take advantage of the perfect soil quality and grape growing climate found in this region. A nice weekend getaway idea is to visit some of the local wine shops and taste the excellent quality of wines these farmers are known for making.

No trip to Seattle is complete without visiting the very popular Space Needle building. The Space Needle was erected in the 1960’s for the Worlds Fair. It is more than 500 feet tall. There is a lookout deck near the top of the Needle where you can get a new outlook on Seattle. You will be glad that you made a visit here part of your vacation.

When it comes to farmers markets the people of Seattle know how to organize one. Seattle’s Pike Place Market is the one of the most impressive farmers markets you will ever see. Tourists come from all over to see all of the unique shops and stands as well as artists and musicians. All in this one place you can buy quality antiques, foreign imported items, fresh food, deserts, wine, cheeses and all kinds of other goodies.

One of the more interesting tourist attractions in the Seattle area is the Native American Tillicum Village. It is a place here history comes alive. You will learn all kinds of detailed information regarding the early settlers of this part of the United States. They perform symbolic dances that have been passed down for generations of Native Americans. It is a very interesting place.

While in Seattle you should try to experience what it is like to ride on a ferry. From the water, you can see awesome views of the Cascade and Olympic mountains. You will get a great panoramic view of the famous Seattle skyline. I can imagine it is very impressive after dark. Ferries are available for sightseeing tourists.

Complete the family’s getaway by visiting the Seattle zoo. Get back to nature in this well run zoo. Show the kids the real life versions of the animals you see in books or on the Discovery Channel. There is a wide variety of exhibits at the Seattle Zoo. They have everything from the simplest farm animal to elephants and giraffes. It will be a memorable part of any trip for the children.

If you plan your visit far enough ahead of time, you may be able to get seats at one of Seattle’s major sports team games. The Seattle Seahawks put on a great show in their relatively modern Qwest Field stadium. You can visit the Key Arena in the Seattle Center to watch the Seattle Storm WNBA basketball team or the Seattle Sonics NBA team. Safeco field is home to the Seattle Mariners Major League Baseball team.

Local watering holes are plentiful around Seattle. You can experience some of the best microbrewery ales in the United States right around Seattle. There are more than a couple to choose from. Called Ale houses, two of the most popular breweries for travelers are the Redhook Ale Brewery and the Pyramids Brewery.
