The next time you are on vacation, forget using taxis and use a budget car rental instead. Sometimes though, the companies that rent budget cars, supply cars that are at the bottom end of the spectrum. Perhaps a slight exaggeration on my part but when renting a car you do have to be careful. There are a few things that can help you when you organize a low cost rental car and I decided to let you know a few.

If the type of car you want to drive is of no real concern to you, use a budget car rental web site that allows you to dictate your own price level. These firms will try to get the best deal for your rental car and might just toss in unlimited mileage and upgrades, all of that without spending an extra dime. When you look, pay attention to the fly-drive packages as they will often discount car rentals although the airlines are not so accommodating. Of course the airlines realize they have a captive audience when people visit their site to book a flight and do not need to discount their car rental.

Budget car rental is now a growing area of online car rental so do not let the low prices put you off. Internet only bookings are fast becoming the only way you are able to receive a discount on your car rental. Aside from that you can easily get upgrades and depending on the season, at least one rental company is bound to have a special offer that can help you save money. Don’t forget that the only effort required to find these car rental deals is to logon to the internet, how easy is that.

Don’t forget to ask for any special offers if you are making a booking over the phone because if you do not ask, you are less likely to be given a discount and you may even find your credit card company has incentives with particular budget car rental agencies. Many car rental companies have arranged special deals with large organizations to ensure they have more business, perhaps you are a member of one of these.

I mean every side and every nook and cranny of that car, make sure to inform the renter of these so that you wont have to pay for damages once you return the car. In addition to a physical check for collision damage, make sure everything works as it should or you might find yourself paying for something that wasn’t your fault.

As far as rental car insurance is concerned, check your own before you pay out more for the rental company’s policy which you may not need. Rental car insurance doesn’t cost much, but if you already have one why buy another? Whatever the case, you must still have insurance cover when you rent a car so don’t try and skip it to save money.

Another money saving tip is to pick up your car early in the morning, make it so that the firm is just opening, this is because at this time most of the rental cars haven’t been returned yet, and you may get an upgrade for a lower price.
