Twenty five years ago so called experts said that Glasgow flights to Europe were unsustainable and that if you wanted get a flight from Glasgow to a European destination you would have to fly via London, Manchester or Birmingham.

There were alternatives available to travellers to get to other European destinations whilst avoiding the English airports. The alternatives were to fly via Dublin for flights to North America or via Amsterdam for flights to the Middle East or Australia.

Today the previous flight options are still there but fortunately so are many new direct flights from Glasgow than ever before. The new low cost airlines are offering travellers more destinations and cheaper airfares. People no longer think of travel as a luxury as they now travel to more destinations and more often but for shorter durations.

The massive increase in access to the internet has helped as without this cheap way of selling flights the costs would be higher for the airline which would result in higher airfares.

With greater access to more and more European cities offering new experiences for the traveller combined with cheaper living costs there, people can afford to travel and the growth in city breaks has been huge.

Wasting part of your holiday sitting in a transfer lounge whilst you wait for a connecting flight is no longer a necessity when you can get direct flights from Glasgow.

People looking for the best deal can shop around on the internet and select a cheap flight. Then it is just a simple matter of finding cheap accommodation to go with the flight and you have a great value short break from Glasgow.

The cheap flights from Glasgow have also brought many foreign visitors to the Glasgow area. Between mid-October flights form Scandinavian countries arrive in Glasgow to get Christmas presents at cheaper prices than they would at home.

If you are planning a short break don’t forget to check out the prices of a short break abroad. The prices could be much cheaper than you expect and you could end up travelling to a more interesting destination than you might have.
